This section outlines the tools utilised in the process of urban design. Used effectively, they can deliver the high quality urban environment that people are increasingly demanding.
Image: public art (official or un-official) is one tool in the creation of successful places.
We can achieve significant improvements in urban design quality when we give priority to urban design outcomes and advocate that design matters at all stages of the planning process (Urban Initiatives, 2003).

Place Tools E-Workbook
We offer a Place Tools E-Workbook as part of our E-Learning series. The workbook provides a bite sized chunk of interactive urban design and placemaking learning and has a range of information, references and links which you can read at your leisure.
Each workbook in the E-learning series includes an assessment which is interactive with our website and tests your understanding through a mix of content and reflective questions. Place Project
Glenwood Park is a 11.3 ha redevelopment in Atlanta, Georgia, located on a former industrial site that most recently had been a concrete recycling facility. The plan includes 350 housing units (single and multi family), market rate and affordable rental, live/work, mixed-use and civic buildings, green and open space, offices (2,000 square metres) designed around a classic main street environment.
