Placefocus Team

I am an urban planner with more than 20 years experience and a practitioner in urban design. I have worked across private enterprise, public service, academia and professional associations.
My skills in placemaking, training and facilitation are built upon a broad platform of qualifications in urban planning, urban design and environmental science.
More recently, I established Placefocus - a training and internet business. We help people convert urban spaces into places and ultimately destinations.
My practice is maintained as Principal of AKH Consulting which provides independent advice and specialist services in innovation through facilitation and placemaking.
I have been invited to present papers at national and international conferences. In 2001 I was awarded the AV Jennings Churchill Fellowship for international research into sustainable development. My passion for sustainability, inextricably linked with urban design, led to my role as International Coordinator of Sustainability for HASSELL.
I have benefited from several international study tours focusing on urban design and sustainable development.
I have been married to my wife, Vanessa, for 18 years. We have two daughters. We live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
In my free time I enjoy reading, playing tennis, taking photos, gardening and watching sport.
