My Favourite Place
We want to share the places that we like - we are in the process of making this more interactive so that you can add yours.
Image: this landmark site in the heart of Northbridge is intended to be a major commercial, cultural and creative hub acting as a destination for families and passers by as well as a venue for large scale cultural events. Significantly the soft infrastructure components complement the hard. The Piazza is framed by the new multi-purpose Community Building, a versatile stage, an outdoor LED screen and an illuminated 8 metre high feature ‘Green Wall’. The space has been flexibly designed to encourage community use for performances, exhibitions, festivals, sporting events and other cultural activities.
We are currently developing a star rating system for places. This would focus on the quantitative components of urban design and placemaking including:

traffic speed

day and night time activity

soft infrastructure
-
enclosure
We are also developing a polling booth for you to vote for your favourite place.

Peter tells how the Hackesche Höfe is a great urban place that delivers a diversity of mix within an overall structure. He describes how the hofs, the courtyard areas between the buildings, offer a whole variety of different spaces ranging from theatres, through to galleries, retail and shops, and bars and how people live on top of this in a little community.
