Healthy Spaces and Places is a landmark project which acknowledges the role of urban design in influencing how physically active people choose to be. It demonstrates the importance of taking a national perspective to:
- managing our environments;
- investing in Australia’s future health and well-being;
- reducing health costs by preventive measures;
- fostering collaborative partnerships; and
- supporting social ‘connectiveness’.
Healthy Spaces and Places is a national guide for planning, designing and creating sustainable communities that encourage healthy living. Healthy Spaces and Places outline the design principles to consider when designing and planning for health and well-being benefits.
Consideration of design principles such as mixed use, connectivity and density is essential when designing a healthy place.
