Place Training
Complete Streets - Urban design guidelines.
This training course introduces these guidelines and is facilitated by the energetic Steven Burgess.
"IPWEA has reviewed and revamped the original Queensland Streets manual to give you a national guideline in Complete Streets. A dynamic document, Complete Streets is a community focused comprehensive how-to-kit for contemporary urban street design that will produce quality streets, urban spaces and neighbourhoods."
This manual for street designers (incl. engineers, landscape architects, architects and planners) improves QLD streets by dealing with pedestrians, sustainability and public transport.
“We have seen tremendous enthusiasm from the engineering industry after an extensive number of workshops throughout Australia and New Zealand. It has reinforced many peoples belief that we did have to shake things up." Steven Burgess
The implementation of this State-wide technical manual will result in immediate improvements to the design of our streets - the fundamental building blocks of placemaking. Based on discussion in the course there is an opportunity to work with Councillors to consider long-term initiatives while remaining focused on short-term results for their citizens.
"We have to keep reinforcing the people first message to give designer the confidence to move forward and design unique streets for individual places." Steven Burgess
Steve provides a good explanation of this manual - 'how to' create streets for all users (in order of preference):
- pedestrians
- cyclists
- public transport users
- motorists
